Trail Hog Skate Weekend! Feb 21 - 23
Taking place the weekend after the Skater Migration in
Miami, this group skate mixes both social and fitness skating, while showcasing
the best places to skate in Tampa Bay. We will offer social skate options and
fitness skate options. Bikes are always welcome to join us. Schedule is as
follows:
**Friday Social Skate - St. Petersburg**
What: This skate is an ongoing skate (20 years!) that occurs twice weekly in St.
Petersburg. The route takes you through the streets of downtown St. Petersburg,
near the Pier and the waterfront of Tampa Bay. This skate is led by the St. Pete
Skaters.
Note: This is NOT a beginner skate. Urban skating means skating on many
different surfaces, including sidewalks, roads, brick, railroad tracks, etc. If
you are not comfortable on your skates, you may want to skip this one. This is
also an adult themed skate, which means we will be stopping for drinks.
Distance: Approximately 10 miles
When: Meet at 7:30pm, roll at 8pm
Where: The Campus Grind bar
120 6th Ave S. • Saint Petersburg, FL
**Saturday at Flatwoods**
What: Skate at Tampa's premier loop trail in the woods- 7 miles of pristine and
flat pavement uninterrupted by traffic. Keep your eyes peeled for deer, snakes,
alligators, bobcats, armadillos, and yes- HOGS! We will be skating a marathon
distance, but you are welcome to skate as much or as little as you'd like. We'll
eat lunch afterwards at Fuzzy's Taco Shop (5621 E. Fowler Ave). This skate is
led by Jessica.
Distance : 28 miles (or more, or less)
When: Meet at 9am, roll at 9:30am
Where: 14302 Morris Bridge Road
Thonotosassa, FL 33592
**Saturday Night Urban Skate**
What: The downtown Tampa skate is also full of history, dating back to the 90s
when hundreds of skaters participated. The urban skate winds along Bayshore
Boulevard (the longest continuous sidewalk in the country), around Davis Island,
down the Riverwalk, (Tampa's newest recreation attraction), and ends up back in
downtown Tampa where will we stop at our favorite New York style pizzeria. This
skate is led by Rob.
Note: This is NOT a beginner skate. Urban skating means skating on many
different surfaces, including sidewalks, roads, brick, railroad tracks, etc. If
you are not comfortable on your skates, you may want to skip this one. This is
also an adult themed skate, which means we will likely be stopping for drinks.
Distance: Approximately 14 miles
When: Meet at 7:00pm, roll at 7:30pm
Where: Mattlaw parking lot- 304 S Plant Ave, Tampa, FL 33606
**Sunday at the Causeway Trail**
What: The Causeway Trail stretches across the bay from Tampa to Clearwater.
Running alongside Tampa Bay, you'll catch glimpses of sparkling water (and maybe
a dolphin or two). This skate includes a bridge climb. The bridge is not very
steep, but you will want to make sure you are comfortable with slowing down and
stopping if you attempt the bridge. Lunch afterwards at Bahama Breeze. This
skate is led by Jessica.
Distance: Approximately 16 miles- 5 if you choose to skip the bridge.
When: Meet at 9am, roll at 9:30am
Where: Ben T. Davis Beach (parking fee required)
7720 W Courtney Campbell Causeway, Tampa
Lunch after across the street at Bahama Breeze- 3045 N Rocky Point Dr E, Tampa,
FL 33607
Legal stuff: As always, skating is a dangerous activity which can result in
serious injury or death. By participating in this event you assume all risk
associated with the event. While the skate is led by experienced volunteer
guides, it is not supervised or accompanied by local law enforcement. We skate
on sidewalks, trails, and roads. - SKATE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
